Day 4 cleanup and lunch with the wife. Cutting to fit the outlet plates sucked on day 2. We went to a reclaimed wood place on Friday and decided something actually wood for a mantel is necessary and after all is said and mounted it would at least be some coin for anything we get so we added some and have a solid five-foot square post hunk of pine coming. Stained and ready. Will be nice. Crown moulding eventually goes up and will include a half inch round piece to fill the gap up top. A thin flat hearth stone will go in when the floors get done in another year.
I wish it burned real wood....codes, ya know.

What code prevents a wood burning fireplace? Are you in an apartment or something?

New builds can’t have an outright log burning classic wood burning fireplace. Your state/county/city may vary. Plus if I could retrofit, that would be a Million bucks to do it, building a who le chim ney, and associated parts to keep my house from burning down.
